RESUMO

The paper explores the correlation between jingjin (muscle regions of meridians, sinews/fascia) injury and wulao (five types of exhaustion) and the relevant prevention and treatment strategies, and determines the internal mechanism of the disease so as to provide the ideas for prevention and treatment of jingjin injury. Wulao may result in jingjin injury not only through the damages of blood, qi, muscles, bones and tendons indirectly, but also through the damage of soft tissues directly. The great attention should be paid to preventing from jingjin injury, especially wulao, due to which, the appropriate combination of the static and the dynamic skills is emphasized in the way of physical exercise. When the injury occurred, the conditions of the whole body should be analyzed comprehensively and the local affected regions be concentrated simultaneously in treatment. For the indirect injury, the holistic idea should be the basis of regulating five zang organs and restoring the physiological functions of blood, qi, muscles, bones and sinews so as to adjust jingjin. Regarding the direct injury, the staging regimen for the local treatment is considered to harmonize qi and blood and balance sinews and bones. When the injury has been cured, the physical exercise is recommended to strengthen sinews and bones according to individual conditions to prevent from recurrence.

RESUMO

Meridian-tendon is a central concept in meridian theory of TCM, and its basic research has been increasingly emphasized. While there is no unified understanding of the essence of meridian-tendon, the concept that function of fascia could partially reflect the functions of meridian-tendons has reached consensus in the academic community. This article suggests that under the guidance of meridian-tendon theory, based on previous research foundation of fascia, focusing on adopting fascia research methods, the mechanisms of tender point hyperalgesia and abnormal proliferation related to meridian lesions should be adopted to explain yitong weishu (taking the worst painful sites of muscle spasm as the points), and the mechanisms of meridian intervention efficacy should be adopted to explain yizhi weishu (feelings from patients and acupuncture operators). Furthermore, this article provides an analysis of the future trends in basic research of meridian tendons.

RESUMO

As a diagnostic method to guide the treatment of sinew/fascia diseases, jingjin (muscle regions of meridians) differentiation is an important component of syndrome differentiation system of acupuncture and moxibustion. In clinical practice, because of the limitations of the ideological guidance of the holistic view, the systemic and dialectical thinking and the syndrome element collection, the system of diagnosis and treatment of sinew/fascia diseases is not comprehensive. Through combing the origin of the holistic view of jingjin, the paper expounds the differentiation framework of sinew/fascia diseases from 4 aspects of differentiation, i.e. the location of disease, etiology, nature of disease and condition of disease. It suggests to construct jingjin differentiation system by taking the holistic ideas as the core, the syndrome element research as the common method and the evidence-based medicine as the theoretical basis so that the thinking of syndrome differentiation and the diagnostic approaches based on jingjin theory can be enriched.

RESUMO

This study proposes a rapid and non-destructive technique for determining the age of Potentilla griffithii individuals in the field by observing the sequence of leaf scars. Based on two- to three-year-old P. griffithii seedlings, planted in a common garden in the western Sichuan Plateau, China, the study found that the rates of basal leaf production were consistent, with leaves growing from March to April and falling off from October to December, leaving behind basal leaf scars. Thus, the age of individuals in situ could be determined by counting the leaf scars. Through this method, we determined the age structure and growth strategy of P. griffithii populations in two typical habitats in the western Sichuan Plateau. In open land habitats, the age structure of P. griffithii populations was relatively younger compared to understory habitats. In open land, P. griffithii tends to allocate more photosynthate terminal organs (leaves and fine roots) to absorbing more resources, as well as to its reproductive organs (flower stems and aggregate fruits), to expand the population. The P. griffithii population in the understory habitat is in its middle-age stage and concentrates more photosynthate in the coarse root part (e.g., the high coarse root mass fraction (FRMF)) to support the plant. Additionally, we found a significant correlation between P. griffithii plant age and various traits in open land habitats. Therefore, we conclude that plant age can be used as a good predictor of plant growth condition in open land. These results allow for predicting ecological processes, based on the ages and traits of P. griffithii plants, providing a theoretical basis to support the large-scale breeding of P. griffithii.

RESUMO

Mining salt tolerance genes is significant for breeding high-quality salt-tolerant rice varieties in order to improve the utilization of saline-alkaline land. In this study, 173 rice accessions were measured for their germination potential (GP), germination rate (GR), seedling length (SL), root length (RL), germination potential relative to salt damage rate (GPR), germination rate relative to salt damage rate (GRR), seedling length relative to salt damage rate (SLR), relative salt damage rate at the germination stage (RSD) and comprehensive relative salt damage rate in the early seedling stage (CRS) under normal and salt stress conditions. Genome-wide association analysis was performed with 1,322,884 high-quality SNPs obtained by resequencing. Eight quantitative trait loci (QTLs) related to salt tolerance traits at the germination stage were detected in 2020 and 2021. They were related to the GPR (qGPR2) and SLR (qSLR9), which were newly discovered in this study. Three genes were predicted as salt tolerance candidate genes: LOC_Os02g40664, LOC_Os02g40810, and LOC_Os09g28310. At present, marker-assisted selection (MAS) and gene-edited breeding are becoming more widespread. Our discovery of candidate genes provides a reference for research in this field. The elite alleles identified in this study may provide a molecular basis for cultivating salt-tolerant rice varieties.

RESUMO

In order to increase the fractionation efficiency of the wheat straw, a deep eutectic solvent (DES) system consisting of chlorine/lactic acid was used in this study for wheat straw pretreatment. The outcomes exhibited that DES pretreatment significantly enhanced the capability to extract lignin, retain cellulose, and remove hemicellulose. The best condition for the pretreatment of wheat straw was 150 °C for 6 h. The process retained most cellulose in the pretreated biomass (49.94-73.60%), and the enzymatic digestibility of the pretreatment residue reached 89.98%. Further characterization of lignin showed that the high yield (81.54%) and the high purity (91.33%) resulted from the ether bond cleavage in lignin and the connection between hemicellulose and lignin. As for application, the enzymatic hydrolysis of the best condition reached 89.98%, and the lignin also had suitable stability. The investigation exhibited that DES pretreatment has the potential to realize an efficient fractionation of lignocellulosic biomass into high-applicability cellulose and lignin of high-quality.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the imaging features of focus of knee joint tendon in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) technique. METHODS: One hundred KOA patients and 100 healthy subjects were included. All the KOA patients were palpated by the sequence of foot yangming meridian, foot shaoyang meridian, foot taiyang meridian and foot three yin-meridians, and the focus of knee tendon and its frequency were recorded by MSUS technique. The top-5 focus of knee tendon of KOA patients and the corresponding focus of knee tendon of healthy subjects were selected as the observation sites to compare the differences of thickness of ligament and tendon soft tissue in the extension and flexion positions of the knee joint. RESULTS: The top-5 focus of knee tendon of KOA patients were located in medial inferior patella, medial tibial condyle, inferior patella, Zusanlici and Hedingci. The thickness of ligaments and tendons in extension and flexion positions in KOA patients were thicker than that in healthy subjects (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The focus of knee joint tendon in KOA patients shows significantly thickened musculoskeletal imaging features.

RESUMO

The objective of this study is to determine how a hibernating mammal avoids the formation of blood clots under periods of low blood flow. A microfluidic vascular injury model was performed to differentiate the effects of temperature and shear rate on platelet adhesion to collagen. Human and ground squirrel whole blood was incubated at 15 or 37 °C and then passed through a microfluidic chamber over a 250-µm strip of type I fibrillar collagen at that temperature and the shear rates of 50 or 300 s-1 to simulate torpid and aroused conditions, respectively. At 15 °C, both human and ground squirrel platelets showed a 90-95% decrease in accumulation on collagen independent of shear rate. At 37 °C, human platelet accumulation reduced by 50% at 50 s-1 compared to 300 s-1, while ground squirrel platelet accumulation dropped by 80%. When compared to platelets from non-hibernating animals, platelets from animals collected after arousal from torpor showed a 60% decrease in binding at 37 °C and 300 s-1, but a 2.5-fold increase in binding at 15 °C and 50 s-1. vWF binding in platelets from hibernating ground squirrels was decreased by 50% relative to non-hibernating platelets. The source of the plasma that platelets were stored in did not affect the results indicating that the decreased vWF binding was a property of the platelets. Upon chilling, ground squirrel platelets increase microtubule assembly leading to the formation of long rods. This shape change is concurrent with sequestration of platelets in the liver and not the spleen. In conclusion, it appears that ground squirrel platelets are sequestered in the liver during torpor and have reduced binding capacity for plasma vWF and lower accumulation on collagen at low shear rates and after storage at cold temperatures, while still being activated by external agonists. These adaptations would protect the animals from spontaneous thrombus formation during torpor but allow them to restore normal platelet function upon arousal.

RESUMO

Nanostructured silicon solar cells show great potential for new-generation photovoltaics due to their ability to approach ideal light-trapping. However, the nanofeatured morphology that brings about the optical benefits also introduces new recombination channels, and severe deterioration in the electrical performance even outweighs the gain in optics in most attempts. This Research News article aims to review the recent progress in the suppression of carrier recombination in silicon nanostructures, with the emphasis on the optimization of surface morphology and controllable nanostructure height and emitter doping concentration, as well as application of dielectric passivation coatings, providing design rules to realize high-efficiency nanostructured silicon solar cells on a large scale.
